As much as I frequently travel for work and family (which is always the same thing for me, really), leisure travel isn't that big of a priority. What more during peak travel periods like Holy Week. And while I'm not here to "yuck other people's yum", as it were, but some travel just seems so pointless to me. And thankfully, Tobie shares my general sentiments on this subject...thus we stay home a lot. And we're not even talking staycations, which are quaint but rather indulgent cost-wise. We literally prefer to stay home.
I made a post about how travel would be a lot easier if the Sietch had a door like in Howl's Moving Castle. This way, we are able to "travel" to distant locations, but always have the option to go home and sleep in our own bed. Hotels are interesting in their own right, but it's always nice to have all the comforts of home, which includes having our usual setup for watching Netflix over dinner or always having the option to bring out a board game to play. If a magical house isn't possible, I'd settle for a TARDIS, despite the risk of weird time travel shenanigans.
I've said many times that traveling to new places would be a lot easier with the actual traveling part. Getting to and from the airport, dealing with all the queues and the security theater that comes with it - it all takes so much out of you. So it would be a lot better if we could just get to the new location instantly without too many steps in between. Thus even Star Trek transporters may not be ideal since their planet-based solutions in the lore involved needing to go to centralized transporter hubs to get to where you need to.
Yes, let's discuss the pros and cons of various fictional transportation alternatives.
I hope you're all having a good Holy Week. At the very least, it's a great time to rest and recharge.
