One of the things we've been trying to figure out at work is how to optimize the cadence and flow of different meetings. A lot has been written about the value of short daily huddles balanced with longer weekly meetings. But what's not 100% clear is what the agenda of each meeting should be such that we remain focused on business goals. We started with the recommended agenda from all the books and business coaching, but it never quite fit our work as a digital marketing agency. This we've been making adjustments here and there to see what works and what doesn't.
Today I hosted the first of our monthly meetings following a new format and our main agenda...was to discuss the new monthly meeting agenda. I know, I know, that sounds a little silly. But getting people to accept a new process is always tricky. And one of the key aspects to any implementation is the communications plan. In this case, I presented the agenda by demonstrating the agenda flow. I think it worked out - the real test is the next meeting when it'll require more participation from the teams.
We actually have a game night tonight. It's a first meeting with someone we connected with online. If this goes well, then it could become the first of many game nights since he lives pretty near. It only took us like 3 months to find someone in the neighborhood worth gaming with LOL.
In other news...the MechWarrior: Dark Age novels are proving to be quite a difficult read. It's not because the books are overly complicated or anything - the whole setting is just weird. The premise is that the Jihad had rather decimated the Inner Sphere and the subsequent order of things included a significant demilitarization. So the books cover things getting worse but with planets limited to barely a handful of actual BattleMechs to throw into battle. None of the stories have been particularly striking this far - it's just a lot of squabbling over seemingly small time worlds. Sad.
