02E4B: Home Improvement Frustrations

Thursday - Tahanan Lunch

My recent Lazada purchases have started to arrive and the one I was really excited about has come up a bit short for now. We've been concerned about the general water quality at the Sietch because the pressure tank attached to our unit hadn't been in use for a while, so we're still clearing rust and sediment that had built up during the inactive period. I had previously purchased external filters for all of the faucets, which was given some degree of reassurance that the water shouldn't have any major sediment. But the loose end has been the shower.

I finally purchased a possible filter for it, but the nature of its design only allows for it to be attached at certain points around the shower. The low-hanging fruit would be at the exit point from the heater to the showerhead, but that means sediment could build up in the machine PLUS I can't fit the chubby little filter into the outlet because of the shape of the heater. The more logical point of attachment is right at the water source...but this is high up the wall and we can't seem to unsure the hose for some reason. We don't have a suitable wrench handy, so we either need to wait for a handyman with proper tools or I invest in some other multi-tool that can act as a wrench. In the meantime, we can't use the new filter just yet, which is understandably frustrating.

Tobie got us 2 new Lifetime chairs for the main dining area, which is great since our older ones are starting to show their age. While they are the most solid type of chairs that we've had over the years, I guess even those are going to go eventually. The dining table has six sides and we've gotten by with just 4 active chairs for the longest time. With the 2 new chairs we have a full six, but will have to consider which ones to let go eventually. None are an immediate fall risk or anything, but we don't want to get to that point either.

The home improvement items I'm expecting this week are additional solar lamps for the garden. I'm hoping to better light some of the paths around the garden since it can get quite dark at night until someone can turn on any of the lights. So I figure solar lights would be an easy way to supplement lighting without needing complicated wiring. The first set that Tobie had got were the pretty firefly-style ones, but they aren't the brightest things around. Now I have lights that are a lot more straight to the point, which might address my lighting desires. Fingers crossed!
