02E36: Functional Travel

Thursday - Vietnamese Salad

We had our first session for our quarterly meeting today and I think it went pretty well. We had agreed upon things that need more attention - and it's not like they were entirely new. The team meets quite regularly, so they're concerns that we've been trying to address already but we recognize they are parts of larger concerns that need more focus. We still have to work out the finer details of what needs to be done moving forward, but that's the point of these sessions.

There's a lot of hate online for more meetings in general, and I can agree that should be the case when it comes to useless meetings. But when you have a clear purpose for the session and it really needs people to talk things out and collaborate, then that meeting is totally needed. And in our case, we have come to appreciate the need to take time away from our daily routines to think about the bigger picture because it's far too easy to get lost in your daily deliverables. When you're stuck dealing mainly with what is more urgent, you'll never build up the momentum to make bigger changes that are more likely to have a greater and lasting impact on the organization.

Given all that, I've still largely stuck to a home-work-home routine for this trip thus far. Then again, it's not like I'd do anything significantly different from what I do back at the Sietch. The main reason we go out is to go to O Bar. And there's no O Bar here in Singapore, so I don't feel the need to go out as much. I might consider venturing out if any of my Singapore-based friends ask, but I also don't want them to go out of their way just for me since I'll be back eventually.

The weekend is coming up pretty quickly and I'm sure that'll mainly mean more time with the nephews more than anything else. I should probably try to get some jogging time in just to kickstart a return to my fitness efforts. I've been on an indefinite pause since the move to the new Sietch and I'm very conscious of the fact that I've been putting on weight again. At least I'm keeping up with my steps and my reading efforts, so that checks several boxes for my dailies.
