Today is the 39th anniversary of the People Power Revolution, the peaceful movement that resulted in the ouster of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Our current president is the dictator's son, and this year his administration only declared today to be a Special Working Holiday, which limits it to just a day of observance of the event without any pay or time off benefits. These moves result in limiting how people can celebrate the day given most can't afford to skip work to do things like this. Of course, the administration denies that the (non-)holiday declaration meant the administration was denying the event in any way. Thus it falls to all of us to make sure that we don't forget what the Edsa Revolution stands for even though it does feel like so many have been convinced that somehow martial law was a good thing.
On the work front, I'm kind of dreading needing to go to Makati tomorrow morning for an in-person client meeting. And while I won't be the primary presenter, it still means that I need to wake up earlier, get dressed in more business-appropriate attire, and drag myself out of ParaƱaque. I knew this was going to happen sooner or later, but I wasn't quite expecting sooner. At least the meeting got moved to 10:00am instead of 09:00am - that buys me a bit more sleep before I need to get ready. I'm trying a taxi service that Tobie's mom uses regularly versus gambling on finding a Grab car during the morning rush hour. The service folks assured me that it'll take me less than an hour to get to Makati and I hope they're right. I've also committed to taking the same service after the meeting to jump right back to the Sietch, so I hope it all works out.
As I had promised myself, I made sure to cook dinner today after work. Tobie used the time to settle some of the TRPG books that he's trying to find new homes for and we had a "classic" mushroom pasta dinner. So far, I can only find some of our usual mushrooms at Shopwise as the SM BF Supermarket doesn't seem to carry them for one reason or another. I may just try ordering the mushrooms via Foodpanda in the future unless Tobie and I go out of our way for a Shopwise run. I can vary the recipe with tuna instead of the mushrooms I prefer, but it's just not the same thing.
Tobie also got to contribute to today's meals. As we had gone to the grocery last night, we were able to shop for things for the household help to cook. We went for chicken quarters that Tobie marinated so they could easily cook them in the turbo broiler today. I threw in the idea of ampalaya as our greens for the meal as it's a vegetable I don't have a lot of experience with but they did. This is another way to improve the keto-compliance of our meals whether we cook them ourselves. It's a creative way to work with the existing systems of this household.
It's the little things here and there.
