Since the household supplements are meals, we haven't quite gotten back into regularly cooking our meals. Since we moved here, I've cooked only two or three times and it hasn't been anything crazy. I guess an additional constraint is how we have a smaller fridge for now and that limits our storage options. Of course, we could still ask to "borrow" space from the main fridge, but I'm a tad paiseh to do so since we want to feel autonomous or at the very least not be too much of a burden on Tobie's mom. So it's a weird place.
We made a grocery run today. Our first two efforts have been limited to the supermarket at SM BF. If you've ever shopped there, then you'll understand our disappointment. It's functional enough, but versus the likes of SM Aura's supermarket, it's oddly lacking in certain areas. But I do prefer to focus our grocery efforts at SM in order to make the most of the SM Advantage points program, which only makes sense if you really focus your purchases with SM-aligned businesses.
But today we decided to check out the nearby Shopwise, which is rather larger than most I've shopped at. It feels very different versus the one time we dropped by many years ago. Now it's all cleaned up and is clearly trying to give the sense of being like an S&R without the membership requirements. The sheer number of imported goods was quite impressive (as were the prices - yikes!)
Some of the things that had been had been unavailable at SM were at least available here. It was a much nicer grocery to walk around in terms of aesthetics, but the vegetables felt unusually expensive - or at least very focused on organic produce and very particular suppliers. It was still nice, but our final bill felt a little crazy versus what we were walking away with.
I foresee that most of our grocery shopping will still be done at SM because of the aforementioned points of concern. And then we'll drop by Shopwise from time to time for very particular items - or maybe I'll settle for remote shopping via Pandamart or something.
We've been here for over a month and we're not quite at "normal" just yet. We remain functional for sure, but there's still a lot that needs to be done.
