A virtual game night is still a game night and thank the stars for things like Steam games and especially Board Game Arena. We assembled part of our Friday night game group and played a whole host of games. We started light with Let's Go to Japan!, because I wanted to see how it had been implemented in BGA. It's a rather solid translation of the game and we ended up playing two rounds because we enjoyed ourselves so much. Then we dove right in with the always massive Ark Nova and it's great that BGA has both Map Pack 1 and the Marine Worlds expansion. Annoying, I lost to Tobie by just 1 point, but that's how things go. Then there was Love Letter, and the BGA implementation is rather adorable. We transitioned to another heavy game with Earth, and I was a little surprised that I managed to win this game since I never felt like I had a good flow. Finally, we closer was the light but delightful Takenokolor, although our random map was the Dragon, and that one is always tricky.
After all that, we woke up past noon and had a lazy afternoon. We finally got ourselves out of bed mid-afternoon for a late brunch, and I made us work for it by having us walk out of the village versus taking the car. It was a rather warm afternoon, so maybe it wasn't the smartest idea. But at least we got some steps in.
For lunch, we ended up at Aroi, a Thai restaurant that has apparently been in business for a while. The food was a mixed bag of great and sad, but it might be worth revisiting sometime in the future. Just skip the fresh spring rolls - they were not fun at all. For dessert we tried another coffee shop right outside the village - a place called Dahan Speciality Coffee. Their Bucky's & Cream was essentially a giant Orea that involved two sorta brownies sandwiching a very thick later of cookie-style cream - quite yummy and heavy. But man, both of our drinks felt like they were just milk with flavoring. Where was the coffee?
Proper reviews coming to Google Maps, soon.
Now we're just relaxing a bit before heading off to O Bar for their Valentine's Day event. I'm excited and scared about tonight because...of something that is going to happen. I'll write about things in full tomorrow. It may be nothing but it may be crazy and I'm trying not to stress out over how tonight will go. Gah!
