02CC0: Rejection

Tuesday - Pork Adobo

So it's official - I wasn't approved for a Unionbank credit card. But as is the way of credit card applications, I have no idea why this is the case and no one is in a position to explain why. I only found out about my application status through our company Unionbank rep because I had asked for her help to look into things. It goes without saying that I'm disappointed at this outcome - the main reason I started all this was to have an alternate card to handle things like Netflix and my Google services to avoid the additional fees BPI has been charging. I wanted to work with Unionbank since I've been a fan of their services on business side and figured it would make sense but...I guess it won't happen now.

I have to wait 6 months before I can re-apply and by then, I don't know if I'll have the desire for it. There's no guarantee that the other credit card providers won't follow suit with the additional cross-border charges as the likes of BPI, BDO, and Metrobank have already implemented. So for now I'm sticking to the original plan of shifting the likes of Netflix and Prime Video to Globe billing so that they're now processed through a local biller. The only service I won't be able to move is my Google One subscription unless I consider using my Unionbank debit card or something. I realize I also have my blog domains under Google Domains (which has been sold off to Squarespace), and I think that I won't have a good deal with Squarespace, so maybe I'll just transition to a different domain provider that bills in USD. It's a decent enough plan overall for how to manage things for now as it's not like I deal with a lot of other foreign-billed Philippine companies or services.

Oh the things we do to save on every transaction.

I've been thinking about writing a blog post about the things from the Dune booked that didn't make it to the movie, but maybe I'll save this for another day.
