Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 1124
Today is Wednesday. Tomorrow is Thursday. And I fly home on Friday afternoon. This nearly three-week trip is coming to an end, and as always it almost feels like a surprise that I'm coming to the end of my time away from home. Of course, I miss Tobie and other aspects of my "regular" life including cooking meals, doing laundry, board game sessions with friends, and O Bar nights. But I know I'm going to miss my family here, the crazy times with my nephews, and the diverse options provided by Singapore (and now also Malaysia) among other things.
My trips to Singapore make up the majority of my travel year after year but Singapore is also my primary destination because I want to be able to spend time with my sister. Sure, we run a business together and that's always a good reason to travel, but figuring out what is a reasonable frequency for these trips that still make business sense and won't get immigration suspicious of my flight patterns is a formula we don't necessarily know how to solve. And I have a fair bit of work travel for this year already mapped out, so we'll see how that goes.
Work was pretty productive today, but I'm also dedicating all of my relatively "free" time at work to reading more business materials. I have a particular project that I'm overseeing that I'm taking pretty seriously. I know books won't have all the answers, but I hope to get sufficient inspiration and direction from the different reference materials I'm pouring over in order to come up with a coherent solution that works for the nuances of our company. And there lies the challenge and what also makes this such an interesting puzzle - how to address things in a manner that is effective but doesn't just replicate what people consider to be overly corporate or not in line with our company culture.
I'll figure something out. It's going to take more than the time I have left in Singapore, of course. But I hope to at least have a general shape of what I think we need to do in mind soon so that we can start moving forward bit by bit.
