So last week's Geeky Guide update didn't get a lot of feedback. In my effort to crowdsource what makes for a good (or at least useful) book review, only one friend replied with something on whether I'd re-read the book. That's actually a pretty useful suggestion that I'll probably incorporate into things in the future, but I have nothing else beyond that so far.
So if any of you blog readers have suggestions, let me know.
I have a working framework that I've brainstormed with Gemini AI, but I'm not 100% sold on it just yet. It was the same with the board game review format for the Geeky Guide, and that got refined thanks to conversations with Tobie, and once friends started to read the live reviews and gave me feedback. I'm sure it'll be the same with this new section of the Geeky Guide, but "measure twice, cut once," as they say.
The only challenge is that I think I'm still going to be limited to books with a proper ISBN. The Geeky Guide remains a site more focused on the wider global audience and one designed to try to play the search engine game. I can still review inside stuff as editorial blog articles, probably, but in terms of the structured review database, they won't work there. I'll think about this some more in the hopes of finding a feasible solution, but we'll see what I come up with.
In the meantime, I've rather slowed down in terms of board game reviews, admittedly. Things have been busy, and maybe I'm not quite as pressured/motivated as I was in the first few months. I know I shouldn't relax just yet, as there's still a lot of work left for the site, but I can only do so much. Adding book reviews at this point could help add a bit more variety to the "work", or I may just add more pressure.
Wish me luck.
