02FF5: Far Lunch

Wednesday - Izzi Izakaya

So today's holiday has been...unproductive. But in a good way. I only say this because we didn't have a super firm agenda, and we've largely been lazy. We had a massage last night, then had pizza for post-massage munchies, while watching Apex (weird movie). I did manage to work through another batch of O Bar videos while Tobie polished off the last of his edits for his comic to get the ball rolling for figuring out how the printing will go.

We did venture out of the Sietch today for lunch with a good friend. The fact that we went past the toll gates just tells you how important he is. We had over-priced Japanese food followed by some coffee, since he clearly needed a break from the many things he has been juggling in life. As is the way of these things, we can only offer our support as everyone's problems are their own. And sometimes it's important to just get friends to take a moment to breathe and not be so in the trenches with their obligations all the time in order to sort of reboot. Then they can go back into the thick of things with fresh eyes and hopefully a new perspective on things that might help them get unstuck. I hope that's what we did for him today, even if it pulled him away from things for a few hours.

Beyond that, let's go over other entertainment things:

  • We just watched the first series of the Marlow Murder Club, and it was not what I was expecting! I figured it was going to be another cosy mystery series (like all the Hallmark crap we've been using as background entertainment), but it was actually quite involved and felt more like a straight-up mystery series. Totally worth it, and I can't wait to go through the subsequent series.
  • Finally got started on the original UK series Ghosts. I wasn't sure if we'd go with this one or the US version, but a clip showing Kylie Minogue appears in an episode somewhere down the line had us going for the original show instead. It's SO good!
  • Tom King's Batman run is really involved with some very strong writing. But it's also not the easiest series to read, and I can't just blitz through it like how I handle lighter comic titles.
  • Welcome to Waikiki is somewhat growing on us, but it's not the most compelling show to watch. I don't think we're going to immediately jump into their second season after this first one - kind of on the lookout for our next KDrama already.
I hope you all had a good and maybe meaningful holiday break. Back to work tomorrow!
