02FEA: Relative Simplification

Saturday - Nanyan Yuan Yang

It rained in the wee hours of the morning. But it didn't last too long, and for most of today it was quite sunny as usual. Tonight, it's raining cats and dogs, so I guess the rainy season has decided to inch its way forward, at least for this weekend. I welcome the relief from the heat, but this kind of weather does make Metro Manila travel a lot more complicated than it needs to be. And it's not entirely the weather's fault as the bigger issue is our poor drainage system across the metropolis.

Tobie has been great at helping me come up with ideas for Geeky Guide articles in recent weeks. Gemini was somewhat helpful in terms of brainstorming topics here and there, but I find that it has a higher tendency to repeat ideas, even when I remind it about which topics have already been covered. So this week's article about the role of dice in modern board games was mainly his idea, then I just needed to flesh it out with board game examples. I've had some pretty lofty/high concept posts in the early weeks of the blog's revival, and I did feel some pressure to maintain that level of thought and complexity. This is not to say that recent posts have been significantly lighter or something, but they're at least more straightforward. That makes them a little easier to write, but there's still a lot of supporting work needed to write the individual entries for all games that I plan to mention before I write the full piece.

Amid all of last night's writing efforts, we squeezed in a round of A Feast for Odin with the Norwegians expansion and one go through for Sea Salt & Paper with both the Salt and Pepper expansions via Board Game Arena. Tobie won both games, but it was still nice to stretch the gaming muscles to help with writing the article.

Today was pretty light in contrast. We slept in, then only left the Sietch late in the afternoon in the hopes of finding a solution for Tobie's non-charging Apple Pen. His iPad is too old to support the current line of pens, so we've resorted to ordering a replacement via the official web store. Tobie will have to made so with a generic stylus in the meantime until the new pen arrives in a few weeks.

I rush-procesed another batch of O Bar videos before we headed out for tonight. I'm finishing this blog post on my phone as we're already making out way to O Bar for tonight's birthday show for Mama and LetLet. Tomorrow should be a bit more chill since I only have the family book club meeting and our Pendragon online RPG session in the afternoon.
