02FE5: Ugly Headlines

Monday - Chicken Poppers Pasta

After hiding from the rumor of an ICC warrant since November 2025, Senator Bato dela Rosa reappeared at the Senate, literally ran to the session hall since he was avoiding NBI officers present to serve the actual ICC warrant that finally got issued this month. He showed up to join a vote to oust Senate President Tito Sotto and replace him with Senator Alan Peter Cayetano. The Senate has moved to offer protection to Bato, although it's not really clear what that means since he's not exactly being prosecuted for things he did while a member of the Senate. All this happened on the same day that Congress voted to impeach the Vice President, Sarah Duterte. Timing is everything.

There's a Change.org-style signature campaign called "Impeach Sarah Duterte!", which is probably not the most neutral way to frame a campaign to document how many people support holding her accountable for her actions with a full impeachment trial. Congress has done its part. Now we wait for the Senate to convene as an impeachment court with the new Senate President acting as the Presiding Officer. Given Cayetano's track record in terms of supporting the previous administration under then-President Duterte, it seems kind of obvious where all this is going.

It has been a very messy Monday, indeed.
