02FDC: Regional Connections

Saturday - At ABGF PH 2026

Well, we survived the first day of the Asian Board Games Festival Philippines. The turnout was pretty impressive, although the way the booths were arranged didn't feel quite as optimal as it could have been to handle crowds. Regardless, Tobie and I did our best to visit every booth and try to demo as many games as possible while there.

As I mentioned on the Geeky Guide, I was definitely looking forward to connecting with Daryl Chow of Origame again, as we had met a couple of times in Singapore. My secondary mission was to see if he'd sign some of my favorite Origame titles, although by some this ended up meaning seven different games from across  Origame's history. I also picked up a copy of one of their newer releases, 108 Outlaws, because, of course, I did.

Another great interaction involved meeting Goh Choon Ean of Luma Creative Studio. We got to sit down for a full demo of Kaki Lima Downtown KL and enjoyed the experience a lot, especially given how well-designed the game is. We made sure to pick up a copy, along with Trishaw Frenzy, which looked like some good, silly fun.

We ended up tapping out before 05:00pm because we had been on our feet for several hours, and the crowd tired us out. We had made commitments to hang out with our primary board game group after the event. We had brought a few big games as gaming options, but we hadn't quite factored in the number of games we'd pick up at the event. We started the night with the hefty Ada's Dream, but we're also pretty excited to introduce everyone to some of the newer games we had just picked up.

We won't game too late since we'll have to go back to the event tomorrow for Tobie's RPG talk. Plus there are a few games I hope to learn more about before picking them up...we'll see how things go.

It is a very board games-centric weekend indeed.
