02F8F: Coding Friday

Saturday - Dimsum Lunch

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I hope you all got to celebrate love in your own special way.

As for me, I spent Friday the 13th trying to get Webflow to do what I want to do. My to-do list for the night was to tackle some last tweaks to my existing template pages, build the main navigation bar, and then see what other side pages I could design quickly. The tweaking went okay enough, except for some issues related to designing around database connections that I hadn't imported from Airtable yet. But oh man, the navigation bar was a whole other thing.

I had purchased a template for this website, and thus tried modifying the existing navigation bar to suit my purposes. Somewhere in the middle of the night, I had realized that I had broken the mobile view somehow, and no amount of copying menu buttons from other navigation bars managed to fix things. I quit close to sunrise and figured that I  needed some actual sleep before facing it again.

I woke up past noon with a plan to ignore the template and start from scratch. Thankfully, that generally worked, and I got things going in the right direction. It took a better part of the day getting things to look right on mobile devices, but I figured investing this much time in the navigation bar made sense as it's kinda critical for most users. But I did get a little drained after all that, and worked on small wins like the Search Results page and the 404 error page. To top it all off, I even got to design the site footer for all pages.

So yeah, our Valentine's Day weekend started with a lot of website development for one reason or another. At least we have the big O Bar event to look forward to later tonight, although we weren't able to fill up the last slot at our table. Struggles!
