By this time next week, I'll be in Singapore. I'll be there for the duration of the Christmas holidays, but will be back the weekend right after Christmas.
Just as I'm already mapping out everything that I need to prepare for next week, our washing machine has started acting up. It has become particularly noisy during its spin cycles, and simply double-checking if the machine is level does not seem sufficient. I finally called customer service today, and they tried to walk me through some basic troubleshooting. The machine doesn't appear to be particularly noisy or shaky when I run an empty spin cycle, so I wasn't able to replicate the issue during the call. But the rather violent sounds coming from the machine during the full cycle were rather alarming, so it felt prudent to get someone to look at the machine. Initially, the rep didn't want to commit to sending a tech about the noise, but he did agree that someone needed to look at the front panel since it wasn't consistently operating correctly. That'll be happening tomorrow, so we'll see what the tech says.
This means that I won't be able to go through my normal pre-trip loads of laundry - something further complicated by the intermittent rains this week. I'm not too far behind on washing, but it's still annoying. We may need to use a laundry service or visit a laundromat before I leave on Wednesday.
In other news, I received an offer for a pre-qualified Unionbank credit card late last month, and on a whim, I decided to take it. I had been rejected by Unionbank before, so I didn't have my hopes up, but it would be nice to have a backup credit card with no annual fee for life. Plus, their credit cards are already compatible with Google Pay, while BPI hasn't even announced a timeline for when they're getting on board. I was wondering if my address information was still correct, as I couldn't remember whether or not I had updated it to ParaƱaque after the move. I kept meaning to call customer service about it, but kept deferring it in favor of other things.
On Tuesday, I received an SMS that my card had already been passed on to GO21 for delivery this week, so I was already too late. I called Customer Service then and confirmed that (1) my address on file is still my Cubao address and (2) the only way to update my address for my payroll account is in-person at a Unionbank branch. The rep was able to make an exception to help me with my credit card concern (since I had called via the savings account queue) and made a request to update the address for the card. Her instructions were for me to call back in 2-3 banking days to confirm the address has been updated, then to make a request to send the card to the new address. I tried that today, but it turns out the address hasn't been updated yet, and today's rep said that it takes up to 5 banking days before the address can be updated, so I should call next week instead. Such fun.
Unrelated: This reminded me that my BPI Savings account address is also not up-to-date since I also need to go to the branch to get it updated. Stupid BSP rules.
Side complaint - the first rep explained that typically the savings account reps can't help with credit card concerns, so her helping me was a bit of a favor outside of her responsibilities. But I had called the savings line since I don't know what my credit card number is, and thus, I can't call in via that support number. For today's call, I tried calling via the application queue, but that one asks for an application number, which I don't have since the pre-qualification form did not trigger any sort of email after. I only found out that I had actually been approved for a card when GO21 messaged me. So I ended up calling the savings account queue again, and that rep advised me to try the fraud line instead in order to get to the credit card department. That felt rather convoluted, but it worked in the end.
So to recap: a washing machine repair guy will come over to look at the machine. I suspect he'll find something has gotten into the machine or something has degraded and is rattling around the chamber during the cycles. Then my new Unionbank credit card will have to wait for next week - it's very likely that I'll already be in Singapore by the time they finally get to send it out.
Such strange complications right before my trip.
