16 is a good number if you like 2's, since it factors into four 2's (or 2⁴ if you prefer). But 16 is also 4x4 or 4², which could be more fitting, as a friend reminded me that 2025 can be expressed as 45². What is a birthday or anniversary blog post without men spending some time talking about the number, right? And as much as I prefer primes, I do have a good respect for the unit structure of 16.
Tobie and I have been together for 16 years.
While Tobie and I always try to make sure we celebrate special events like this, we also don't go too crazy. We've never been big on celebrating by traveling because it takes up too much time. We occasionally like to splurge for a special food experience, but we're generally happy as long as we have good food. The other non-negotiable over the years is making sure we celebrate our special days and achievements at O Bar, because where else would we go, right? O Bar is home.
For this year, it turns out Tobie had asked the O Boys to greet us happy anniversary after the show. Beyond that, we didn't really tell the other performers or the staff, or even friends who were there last night, that we were celebrating our anniversary. We did manage to post on social about it just after midnight, and that helped to clue some people in on why we had braved going to O Bar two nights in a row, which is a bit of a physical feat in itself.
But we both didn't expect the O Boys to bring out this ridiculously large balloon bouquet (with lights!) as a way to help us celebrate today. We tend to expect something to happen for birthdays because that's almost a tradition at this point, but this was a really sweet surprise, and we love them all the more for it. If there's one thing that further stresses why we consider the people at O Bar our family, it's the earnest love and appreciation we feel from all of them. They show it in different ways, and the boys really like to add a bit of festivity to things. There's no better party than an O Boys party, maybe haha. We should probably try to arrange for something like that sometime.
As for the rest of today, it has been nicely chill.
We took the day off mainly so we could sleep in. We had a nice brunch at Shima Japanese Restaurant in the area and indulged in some J.Co donuts back at the Sietch. We later stepped out for much-needed massages at our regular spa and had a lighter but still substantial dinner at Ramyeon Bar and Restaurant.
Gosh, 16 years. It's a lot of time, but it also doesn't feel like enough time, even though so much has happened in the span of those years. There's still so much more we want to do, and if there's one true thing about us being a couple, it's that we always do our best to support each other's dreams and aspirations. The move to ParaƱaque was a big change, and I think it heralds even more changes in the next year or so. We're trying to support our respective families, but we're also trying to figure out our next steps given this move. It's all so exciting, and I know there are going to be highs and lows, but it's going to be great. Our primary circle of friends is very limited as of late, but I think the quality of those bonds of friendship can't be questioned. We have our core gaming friends, and we have our O Bar family, and that covers just about all of our social needs.
We continue to love each other and live a life that celebrates that love. And we try to share that love with the people most important to us, and that matters more than fancy things, far-flung trips, or whatever.
