Last night's Pride event at O Bar was a lot of fun. A lot of friends joined us at the table, and there were many familiar faces around the bar. This year's LGBTQIA Icons of the Year Awards were quite meaningful, with a surprise appearance by one of the more notable awardees. And, of course, the show was fantastic given the quality of the performances and the diversity of the talents involved, including drag queens from all over the country.
There were some very big (and new) choreographed numbers last night, and it was awesome to see so many performers on the O Bar stage. These big sequences excite me more than some of the solo guest performances because I know these take so much more work. O Bar has identified itself as being home to Asia's finest dancing drag queens, and event nights like this are a great highlight of that. In addition, the guest queens from the different parts of the country also had some killer numbers this year - I think keeping the groupings of a smaller size gave them more time for polish and refinement. This was definitelty a great way to showcase drag talent from the different parts of the Philippines.
I still managed to record pretty much all of the numbers during the night. My hand started to cramp at the end, which just speaks to how long the show was overall. But this was a first for me, and I'm still trying to deal with what's causing the pain. It was most acute in my pinky finger (of all things!) since this is my lower stabilizer for my phone when I hold it in my right hand. But I can trace the pain in a line running up my arm and potentially all the way to my shoulder...or the shoulder pain is a whole other thing. One of the queens quipped that it's probably age-related, which is probably not wrong. Just have to accept these things.
In our younger years, we'd try to continue the Pride festivities until today, but we opted to stay in for the most part. We did have an online RPG session this afternoon, but we're not venturing back to O Bar tonight - although it was a rather tempting notion that we entertained for a bit.
I hope everyone had a meaningful weekend, especially for those of you who also celebrate Pride. We all have our own ways of commemorating this time, and as long as it was meaningful to you, then it's still the right way to celebrate.
