02E9E: Bad Dinner, Good Reading

Wednesday - Botejyu Dinner

We had dinner at the Botejyu at SM BF today, it was sorely disappointing, especially given the restaurant's price point. The service was decent, but the quality of the food was just really bad. The Aromatic Sake Steamed Chicken (middle of the cover image) was painfully dry - the waitress says it's really like that, but it felt like it was either overdone or had been reheated a few times. A lot of the food tasted really bland - which is not something you expect from a Japanese restaurant. The only item that we liked was the seafood sashimi salad.

SM BF really doesn't have notable restaurants really worth making the time to eat at. I kinda wish they added a robust food court for more dining options, as the places it does have are rather...lackluster. Its main advantage is that it's the nearest mall in our area, and that's about it.

I have finished reading the last of my purchased Vet Shop Boys books, and Book 7 was surprisingly good. I'm still not in a rush to pick up the books missing from my collection. My next queer title has me returning to Alexis Hall - specifically Something Fabulous. It's a period piece, so think something along the lines of Bridgerton, and I'm rather loving the writing thus far. To be fair, Hall really has a way with words, so the last bit is not surprising. I think I'm going to blitz my way through this title given how much I'm enjoynig the initial chapters.

Last bit for this blog post - I keep wondering if I should give up on Kindles and consider other ebook readers. This is not something that is going to happen anytime soon, as my Oasis isn't even a year old. However, it's just something I'm wondering about. To be fair, I'm heavily invested in the Kindle ecosystem, so I'm rather stuck with Amazon as a whole. But maybe there are other ebook devices worth investing in. The typical approach appears to be leveraging Android as the OS behind the ebook reader, thus allowing for the installation of Google Play Apps (like the official Kindle and Audible apps), thus retaining access to Kindle titles, while also being flexible enough to support other book marketplaces through their apps, like allowing for Google Play Books.

If anyone has any thoughts or recommendations on alternate ebook readers, do let me know.
