Our third and final day of Komiket Pride was a rather limited one since we had secured tickets for the play Come From Away well before we had confirmed the Komiket dates. So we did our best to stay as long as possible, which was until around 04:30 pm, then we had to rush off to Makati for the play.
Saturday was definitely a busier day versus today, although the rather strong overnight rains were probably a factor in the limited people traffic in the morning. In a bit of good fortune, Tobie actually cleared out his stock of his Diliman Generation Now zine just as our personal deadline drew near, so it feels like we accomplished enough during today's event. We still got to catch a few friends who made time to visit the event today, and Tobie also got to engage with other readers. Beyond this, we have another event in July - we'll see how that pans out.
Thankfully, there was minimal traffic on our way to Circuit, and we even had time for some coffee at Kaya Toast at the Old Town Coffee branch there before the show.
I really enjoyed the show and was surprised at how much it hit me. I guess it speaks to how the events of 9/11 really had more global implications, and experiencing the different stories of the characters had me remembering the worry and fear I also felt just watching the news all those years ago. Such events really leave an impact on everyone around at the time, and the play did a great job of helping to convey that emotional truth.
The only downside was that they had set up the tech booth among the orchestra seats. This was a rare time that I didn't book us orchestra center seats since my wallet was still hurting from booking Into the Woods. Thus (unfortunately), we were on the side very near the improvised tech booth and the bright lights of the screens and the literal lights the guy needed to read the script to follow his lighting cues or whatever meant it was bright THE WHOLE TIME. It really diminished the overall experience. And it's not like the Samsung Theater doesn't have a dedicated tech booth at the back...so why did they need to create another setup among the orchestra seats?
Needless to say, this has been one heck of a weekend.
