We survived the first day of Komiket Pride for 2025, and it was a pretty good event as a whole. The pride focus really changes the dynamic of the event, and we happily got to see more friends of the non-straight variety. At the same time, today being a random local holiday also helped with attendance numbers. However, we're still expecting tomorrow to be extra busy. And Tobie has a much more robust booth setup, so it feels like we're better equipped to promote his comic project Diliman Generation Now.
In addition, I was happy to find that an artist I like was at the event, too. So Tobie and I managed to steal away a little time to have our portraits done LIVE in like 5 minutes. It was a magical experience to watch while the artist asked us about how we got together, and such. I don't think we've ever sat for a portrait together, so this was an interesting first. There's also the idea to have professional photos taken of us, but it's another of those things that have yet to happen.
It was also a day of trying to figure out Ayala Mall The 30th, which is a VERY strange establishment. A lot of the stores are still behind hoarding, and the mix of restaurants is a little weird. Komiket Pride is spread across two floors, and our area was a little warmer than some other parts, especially at the beginning of the day. The escalators are in different places every few floors, and things like Starbucks are in a weird outside atrium-style area instead of somewhere accessible from within the main mall. I think I have things mostly figured out at this point, but we'll see how things go across the rest of the weekend. At least I already know where the coffee shops are, so I won't take as long getting a caffeine fix.
