So yesterday's relatively impromptu game night was quite a lot of fun. We didn't have our full FGTC gaming group since it was a second (unplanned) game night for the month. But that still gave us room to play a lot of good games. And it also became a night of a lot of new games, which is always good for gamers with large game collections that need to move.
We started with Three Sisters, which is a roll-and-write that we're always eager to introduce to more friends. Then we split up into two groups of three to tackle two big games - I facilitated another round of SETI, and Tobie went through a first playthrough for Now or Never. I think it's fair to say that each group enjoyed their respective games, but it still took a fair amount of time. Our table finished first, and we filled the time with a few rounds of Trio until the groups could convene again.
It was late, so the active players cut down to 4, which opened the doors to other games. We got to try as few games that another player had brought - these being SpellBook and My Shelfie. SpellBook was a little quirky and reminded us of games like Res Arcana or something. We had previously tried My Shelfie once on Board Game Arena, and it was nice to experience the game at an actual table this time around.
Our final game for the night was a new one for everyone - this being Ahoy, which had just arrived this week. It's published by Leder Games, so we already expected it to have a fair amount of depth. But it proved to be a very delicately balanced game given Leder's continued commitment to asymmetry in how they address game design. I had already committed to the expansion, so it's good that we finally played the base game. LOL
I don't have work tomorrow, and Tobie has also filed leave, so we can relax tomorrow. We'll be headed to O Bar in a bit - hope you all had (or are having) a good weekend!
