02E44: Resolutions

Thursday - SETI Board Game

Blogger is finally back to normal! I'm able to upload header images to my blog posts again. I've already updated the posts from the past few days, so I feel better. Google Photos is also back to normal - I'm once again able to save Google Photos creations and my media backup has resumed as normal. I guess Google addressed whatever the issue on the backend was - the folks in the support forums weren't able to help.

I've also (finally!) been able to add the Chromecast back to our network. The official fix was just to wait for the firmware update and leave it at that. However since we changed the internet network, the Chromecast was no longer in a position to receive the update. So I had to wait another day to wait for the updated Google Home app before I could proceed to factory reset the Chromecast and then get it set up.

So FINALLY, the Sietch is back in order, at least in terms of the technical stuff. Our internet has been stable ever since I switched back to the Google WiFi pods (except for the one time the helper accidentally disconnected the main ethernet cable at the switch). All of our smart speakers are still working and now the Chromecast is back. As much as it has been manageable to watch Netflix and YouTube content via our Sony TV's native apps, it's still a lot faster and more convenient to use a Chromecast. Plus we also get to stream content from platforms like Disney+ and whatever since our TV isn't advanced enough to allow for new apps to be added.

In other news, I've also started experimenting with Gemini Gems at work and it's proving to be quite useful. The usual Gemini assistant leans more on its general database of "knowledge" while you can influence a gem to focus on a maximum of 10 sources - typically Google Drive files. This gives it a more specific flavor or nuance of responses that could be useful for regular work tasks. I'm eager to see how this goes - plus it still feels more conversational and timely versus going full NotebookLM.

It has been a good day of digital "recovery".
