I knew this Monday would be busy because I still had to catch up from our Friday internet outage. Our connection has been stable since we returned to our generation 1 Google WiFi pods. And we needed a stable connection given all the work we needed to clear. I think I cleared most of my to-do list for the day so I can rest easy. Tomorrow will be another day.
We had gone out last night but had a bit of an adventure first on our way to O Bar. We heard a funny propeller-like sound after exiting the toll gate and entered C5. Initially Tobie didn't feel like the car was being sluggish or heavy but it did start to vibrate funny, so we pulled over. And that's when I saw that the rear tire on my side was close to being shredded - we assume we must have run over something and were running on a deflating tired for a bit, which further damaged it.
This is not the first time we've had to change a tired together, but we were helpfully assisted by a random guy in the area. I had most of the basic mechanics down but there were just little questions that came up like which way does one unscrew the bolts on the tire and how exactly should I position the jack. We actually got the tired changed really quickly, but then saw that the spare was badly in need of air. Our friendly stranger offered to drive once of us to the nearest gas station, which was technically like 6 minutes away on foot, so it was quite generous. Tobie got the tired settled while I waited with the vehicle and we were back on our way to O Bar within surprisingly short window of time. Based on the time logs of my photos, the whole situation took about 40+ minutes all in all.
And we still went to O Bar after. LOL
There are the inevitable follow-up items that need to be addressed after this flat tire situation. We need to get a replacement spare tire and check on the overall balance of the car in case there's any significant disparity with the new tire versus all the others. We also need to make it a habit to keep the spare tire inflated at the right pressure - I'll figure out a schedule and add it to our routines somehow. It could have been much worse, so I'm thankful that it was more of an inconvenience that a seriously problematic situation.
And this confirms that I am pretty proficient at changing car tires. The next logical (?) step is for me top actually learn how to drive.
