I actually had a bit of breathing room at work today, and I decided that it might be a good idea to finally tackle some lingering concerns that required additional troubleshooting. This meant getting involved with various chat and/or email support agents to figure out what was going on with our account. For some reason, all the reps that I got involved with today were particularly frustrating for one reason or another. The phone rep calling from India was part of one of the noisiest call centers I've ever heard, which made understanding her significantly more difficult. This resulted in multiple calls with little to show for it and I'm fairly certain she hung up on me during the last interaction. I did more digging on my own, identified another issue, and tried filing a different (yet related) ticket to see if that would help things. This was just a chat conversation but we went around in circles until we eventually got to a decent answer. But in the end...I had to put two and two together and resolved my own issue after multiple interactions with reps today.
In hindsight, it's not that they weren't knowledgeable. My final solution to my problem actually involved some of the steps they had indicated and they did help guide me in the right direction. But it was more their manner of communicating, that in both cases ended up closed loops where they just kept reiterating a solution without explaining why or addressing my questions fully. They just kept going back to the answer they had identified and the lack of context or guidance just made it harder for me to understand and this harder for me to accept their answers. When I trained people for customer service, we stressed that you need to help solve the customer's problem and not get lost in your call flow or script. And in both cases, it felt like they had just stuck to their scripts and didn't want to deviate from it, which made actually communicating all the more difficult. It was quite a frustrating process and I'm just glad that I was able to accomplish what I had set out to accomplish.
On the Sietch front, we had a few more smaller wins for the day. We tackled the last of the fixed shelves and I ended up with a decent display of our Doctor Who collectibles, formalized the final spot for my ships from The Expanse, and used the remaining cabinet as a little collectible haven starting with our Studio Ghibli things, followed by our unusual assortment of Adventure Time toys and finally some random things that included Trixie & Katya Funkos, various non-transforming Soundwaves and a Harry Potter Time-Turner.
The last "big" step for the day was figuring out the final placement for the last big shelf. We moved it a little forward away from the door so it still sort of defines the entrance "corridor" of sorts, but it also opened up a decent amount of space in front of the wall-mounted mirror. We had one last shorter two-tier shelf that fit quite nicely so now it's a place for last looks before leaving. The small shelf is a little silly but should be sufficient as a sort of foyer table for dumping keys, spare change, and other knick-knacks.
That leaves the final touches in the bedroom so we can aim to "move in" this weekend and, of course, shuffling things around in the main living area until we can re-assemble the poker table and get things properly in order. We probably need to invest in a wall mount for our TV as the surface we could theoretically rest it on is just too short. I'm still waiting for the additional Orbi satellite unit to arrive so I can address the spotty internet connectivity in the new Sietch.
We're almost there!
