02E04: Serious Steps Forward

Wednesday - Dunkin Donuts Famous 8

As expected, it was another heavy workday. I had two bit deliverables to clear through and it was the combination of two rather brain-intensive activities - designing a new report and putting together a comprehensive media plan. I have at least two more media plans that I still owe people after today and some more supporting work for the one I cleared today, but that's still something. I can definitely breathe a bit easier by tomorrow since I've finally cleared the most notorious work monkeys off of my back.

My weird support for today has been Gemini Advanced. Ever since I bit the bullet and upgraded us to the 5TB Google One plan, we've also gained access to the "advanced" (read: paid) model for Google's Gemini AI. Up until this point, I've been pretty content with the free version of ChatGPT for the occasional work support because it gives some pretty good responses here and there. But this paid version of Gemini ain't too shabby either, so I'm probably going to take advantage of it for as long as I have access to it. I've already replaced the default Google Assistant with Gemini and now it has become a literal assistant for me as I get through my work stuff. The bulk of the brain work remains mine, but at the very least I have a tool that can support some of the research and other menial tasks that I have to deal with throughout the day.

Given all of my work stuff, I finished a little later than I would have liked and was surprised to find that Tobie had managed to empty out the last of the boxes from the moving company. The new Sietch is still a mess and the dining table hasn't been put together, but at least the boxes are gone. Our next step is to work through the bedroom and start making the space actually liveable. Once we get that sorted together with all of our clothes and the bathroom, we'll be able sort of move in and at least stop sleeping in the guest bedroom in the main house.

Oh in other news, the load balanced arrived early! I haven't even gotten it out of the box at this point, but at least it's already here. Now we just need to wait for the new Orbi units before I can properly set up the expanded network. I'm pretty sure the existing satellites should be compatible with the new base unit I purchased, even if they won't be able to provide the maximum speed offered by the new one. At the very least, it should round out our WiFi coverage across the main house and the Sietch in a manner that makes sense. I'm quite excited about my weekend tech project!

In the meantime, there's still a lot of organizing to do. And I'm also trying to keep pace with my reading at the same time.
