And just like that, we've moved to ParaƱaque. This marks the first time I've ever lived beyond any of the toll gates in this manner and it's certainly an interesting change. Beyond the fact that Tobie and I are super tired after a full day of moving and unpacking, there is a degree of lightness being here. To be fair, this is more than just a location change but Tobie and I are finally living in a house together after 15 years of condo living - I'm pretty sure that's what is making a bigger impact on me than just the move. I'm definitely getting a better appreciation of Tobie's stories of how this place can feel more like the province at times - the breeze is absolutely lovely. We never really got this kind of a vibe in Cubao or BGC.
Plus there is the overall relief that we're finally done with this initial phase of the move - just getting out of BGC and hauling all of our stuff here. I am so thankful that Dad's Moving & Storage turned out to be a great packing and moving service. Given we just reached out after the New Year holidays and only met with a representative on Monday, this all came together quite quickly. We had most things packed up yesterday with the last items settled today. Then it was the whole effort to get everything loaded into the truck - something the team was impressively efficient at given how they managed so many items plus all the hassles of moving in and out of a condo. I'm totally going to recommend them moving forward.
We had everything offloaded from the truck by the early afternoon and since then Tobie and I have been working really hard to regain access to our things. There was the option to just have the movers unpack things, but that guarantee only covers the nearest clear surface. Given the sheer volume of things we own, we need to tackle a lot of the unpacking on our own as our various shelves are kind of crucial to making sure we still have space for all of our geekery AND actual space for gaming with friends and the like.
We've made some pretty good progress thus far - our very rough estimate is that we're about a third of the way through the boxes and other wrapped items but still have to deal with the fact that the bed is currently covered in the lighter collectibles - these being my Transformers and Star Trek ships. The rest of the house is a fortress of boxes filled with board games and way too many books for comfort. As much as I've gone digital in recent years, a significant portion of our collection seems to consist of some very heavy volumes.
I'm already crafting a list of things we'll need in the short term to get things better set up. In the medium term, we're probably going to need a few more shelves, especially as we expand out into the former home office as our weekday working space. There are a lot of exciting plans for how everything is going to come together...but first we have to get all of our stuff out of these boxes so that we can get to actually organizing things and then we can start thinking about having friends over again.
But hey guys, we did it!
