02DF5: Post-Holiday Progress

Monday - Mushroom Pasta

While work resumed for our office last Thursday, today felt like the real first day after the holiday period. It didn't help that I was on leave last Friday to get started on packing up the Sietch, I truly was coming from a longer weekend, albeit a very busy one. I got a lot done but I have some spillover items that I need to tackle tomorrow along with a rather full calendar. It's going to be one of those weeks, I suppose.

In between different work meetings and report discussions, we also managed our two survey calls with different moving companies in order to get a quote for work to pack up the rest of our geekery. The differences in the survey experiences were rather notable as was the resulting quotation for our stuff. Despite so many people recommending Asian Tigers as the big international solution, we're actually going with Dad's Moving & Storage. Despite some initial technical difficulties, the actual call with their representative was great and felt very personable. Plus I like their sustainability commitment in terms of how they reuse boxes and their preference for thick blankets for padding versus bubble wrap. I hope the actual moving experience lives up to their commitments thus far.

As long as all of our permits get approved in time, their team should be at the Sietch on Thursday to work on packing everything up and then Friday will be dedicated to actually moving everything out. Our official last contract day is Tuesday, so we really need to get everything out of here sooner rather than later. If we do clear the Sietch on Friday, then we can spend the weekend at the new Sietch just organizing things and figuring out where everything is going to go. This is going to be a rather lengthy process, but we'll figure it out eventually.

I'm both excited and stressed about all this, but that's par for the course for my brain, I suppose. This manifests as an increased likelihood of singaws, typically caused by me biting my tongue or cheek in my sleep. I'm struggling with a couple of those annoyances now and I just hope I won't end up with more by the end of the week.

I just want to get all this over with so we can settle back into some sort of a routine again. At present, the Sietch is increasingly messy as storage bins and shelves that we were also using as counters and supporting tables have been moved and some of their previous contents (mainly books) have been shunted to the floor for now. I won't be able to get any yoga done until I clear the couch again as it is filled with other refugee items waiting for their turn to move to ParaƱaque. It's a different kind of stress.

Patience and focus for now. It's just going to be extra uncomfortable for this month (at least), but things will start to fall into place in time. It's a good thing that I have a longer Chinese New Year holiday to look forward to at the end of the month, as it's bound to become more time that I can use for sorting and organizing.
