Looking back at 2024, I have few potential complaints. A lot of good things happened on multiple fronts, thus I think it was mainly a good year. There are friends that we couldn't seem to get a hold of as much but there are others who have really stepped up and have become more regular companions for game nights and/or O Bar nights. There was some theater here and there and a lot of work travel. So yeah, a lot of good things. And we managed to develop a number of important friendships and relationships
It would be nice to create some form of social media content to capture all the good things from the past year, but the way I use my camera to document a LOT of things in life makes it a lot more difficult to do so. I can't help but feel some envy with some of the videos friends have put out. Then I look at all the media I've gathered over the last year and I have no idea how to begin curating key moments from some 17,000 photos and 300 videos. Sure, most of it is O Bar-related, but it's still a LOT of stuff to go through. Maybe I can ask an AI tool to go through my stuff and make something for me instead.
But that's all good for now - I still have this blog post. And I guess more of my attention is focused on the year to come.
The big focus for 2025 is the move south. We have until the 14th to get that settled, so it's going to be a crazy two weeks as we figure out how to get everything sorted. We're making enquiries with a few packing and moving services and it'll be a race to see who answers us first or whatever. And that's just the first step - I foresee that our lives will be somewhat disrupted throughout the first quarter of the year as we fully settle into our new lives there including adapting our routines to the changed circumstances.
The move is a big change in our lives, but it also still makes a lot of sense given our shifting circumstances. Both of our families need a bit more support and I still think this move helps enable that. There are also weird little signs that it's time to get out of BGC like the closure of Fort Strip, which is taking away a lot of the establishments that we really like.
So let's talk about today for now.
We ultimately celebrated the coming of the new year at O Bar and it was a great night. The New Year show is never one that I'd recommend as being one of the best that O Bar has to offer, but that's not the point. It's all about the company and the joy of being there with the rest of our O Bar family which makes things extra special. Plus we had a good group of friends with us for the night that made for some interesting conversations at the very least.
We woke up past lunch at last night's O Bar tomfoolery. We opted to walk to Tang to see if they were open. It seems that they're still going to operate at their Fort Strip location until the 5th, so it was good that we made some time for this today. I had a few other errands I hoped to do, so we ended up walking around High Street, then Market Market, and finally SM Aura to get things settled.
Our exciting New Year's Day errands included getting me new footwear since my last pair of sandals broke even before the holiday period. Given the lack of interesting options on High Street, we ventured to the Sketchers store at Market Market, and was happily surprised by the clearance options. I got a pair of sandals and some slip-in walking shows at like 50% off and Tobie got a pair for himself as well. The other priority was getting my glasses repaired because one of the nose guards had fallen off. I also needed to restock on contact lenses and it seems my grade remains unchanged until now. I nudged Tobie to get himself checked out as well and this resulted in updating both his reading glasses and his bifocals for driving.
It has been a productive day despite it being a holiday. It probably would have been smarter to have taken the car so we could have gone grocery shopping as well, but I did appreciate just walking around BGC today. We won't have as much time to do so in the future as we get through the move.
