Merry Christmas, everyone!
As mentioned in yesterday's blog, we're still waiting for my sister to arrive, so the full Christmas celebrations aren't happening yet. Today was another mix of cleaning up and board games, which isn't a terrible combination of activities, really.
In the morning, the game of focus was My Island and we've managed to play through 13 of the 24 episodes of the campaign. It's not a bad game but I don't know if it could be described as a great legacy experience or anything of the sort. It does feel like Reiner Knizia just came up with an evolving game system then someone else tried to tack on some sort of a story to round things out. The gameplay has some solid moments and was definitely designed to work with the whole legacy campaign structure. But there just isn't quite enough narrative oomph to make me really like the game. I think Seafall still had a much stronger narrative. At least I seem to be doing okay in terms of the campaign score (via progress points), but it's still too close to call.
After dinner we returned to Ticket to Ride: Legends of the West and we're now officially halfway through the campaign. We're all enjoying the game even though the game has some pretty wild swings here and there. I guess it helps that Ticket to Ride itself already had quite the solid game system to begin with and this legacy version just adds sort of a story. It's still not as narratively compelling as say Pandemic Legacy: Season One despite sharing a similar creative team. But it's still a good game - even if it's unlikely that I'll score decently come the end of the campaign.
There's still a fair bit that needs to be done to fully prepare the house for the rest of the family, so we have our work cut out for us tomorrow. And since we also have a spa appointment around lunch, it's going to be a lot of work in a limited amount of time.
But yay! Soon we'll be complete and then Christmas is finally going to happen for us.
