02DE4: Quiet Time

Saturday - Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition

Whenever I go home for the holidays, it feels like everything slows down. I know Tobie and I live a life that feels very busy to others given the constant juggling of both in-person and online game nights together with regular O Bar nights, but that just feels normal to us at this point. So anything from that can feel quite weird - or in this case, slow.

Then again, our family is a little insular in how we handle the holidays. It has always been about our core family unit with little time allocated for everyone else. That group is a bit bigger with the addition of the nephews and such, but it still boils down to our parents, my siblings, and to some degree significant others. But that's it. Regardless of whichever country we end up celebrating the holidays it, it largely consists of us gathering and practically cloistering together. We are a family that has our own book club after all and a long tradition of playing a particular game each holiday period. It's a lot of indoor activities that don't involve a whole lot of other people.

Today was pretty quiet. We're all trying to help prepare the new house for the proper Christmas celebration, the bulk of which may actually happen on Boxing Day once we're officially complete. It looks like we won't be unwrapping presents until then - I'm not sure how this travel-extended Christmas is going to pan out.

In the meantime, I'm getting a fair amount of reading in, which is as to be expected. I'm also hoping to clear the last of my O Bar media queue before the year ends, but that requires I find some computer time for myself, which may be a little harder. To be smart about things, I should try to get as much done as I can before the nephews fly in. Then I'll really be busy haha
