02DD2: Mushy Reading

Tuesday - Keto Mushroom Pasta

I've just gobbled up another book in the Franklin U series of queer romance novels because this is how I catch up on my reading goals for the year. They're easy reading and I recognize that after 15 years of being with Tobie, I've become quite the sucker for cheesy romance stories. It helps that these books make for easy reading and thus I clock numbers pretty quickly with a decent (if somewhat predictable) payoff. I have a lot of penny romances to choose from, but I do appreciate this one is an actual series where each book stands on its own but there are a lot of interconnected characters all throughout. It's like Discworld, but with a college setting focused on a tight orbit of non-straight characters.

I would have started writing this blog post sooner had I not reached that critical sprint point in the third book, Mr. Romance, which honestly had a surprising premise of a golden retriever-type character who is so nice that people keep thinking they're dating him. It's a silly enough premise that skirted the fake boyfriend trope but veered away at the last minute. But given the other character's knack of putting together romantic experiences because of his own love for romantic tropes, it makes for a lot of fun meta moments.

I have covered 329 books this year out of my target of 366 titles (because it's a leap year), and it's going to take a lot more serious reading to catch up as I am at least 8 behinds behind the needed pace. But the holiday season has already been quite busy given multiple O Bar nights and gaming-related activities.

In other news, it's Tobie's turn to deal with a random injury we can explain. When he twists his left arm certain way, there's a stabbing pain, but we're managing things now with a bandage and painkillers. He seems to be responding well enough, so I think he should be back to normal by the weekend. Now I'm worried that I'm going to pull a muscle again during one of my morning yoga flows, so I need to be extra careful. Otherwise, we'll both end up being injured and having very different mobility limitations, like that Sesame Street sketch

We're definitely getting older, but at least we're doing so together.
