Birthday shows at O Bar always feel like important family affairs. We always say that we O Bar is our second home and big events are often days of family obligation. And they're always worth the time and effort to venture out for. Even after we move south, we're still going to do our best to head out for the big O Bar event nights.
Last night was a joint celebration for three different performers - Eva Papaya, Izzy Xtra, and Jonbel Vivero. All are truly good friends at this point and the depths of our relationships manifest in different ways. The show included a lot of numbers that spoke to us on a more personal level and we were more than happy to be present to celebrate them and cheer them on. And they put on an AMAZING show together that included iconic performances and some very emotionally charged numbers.
Our gift-giving season has already begun apparently, as we gave some gifts early. The first big release was our planned gift for the O Boys since they were almost complete last night including one who had moved to another opportunity. The really liked our gifts for them, which makes me all the happier. They bring us so much joy and we try to do what we can to share the love.
I kinda cried at least twice last night - once during a particular performance and another time after the show. As I explained in a comment response to a friend, I think I wear my heart of my sleeve when it comes to O Bar performances. We've watched so many of them over the years and each comes with its own stories, and quirks, and other memory markers. It's what fuels a lot of our love for everyone who graces that stage and more.
We have to get ready to head out in a bit for another event - this time as a sort of "anticipated" celebration of World AIDS Day tomorrow. More found family time is always a good thing.
