Before any work trip, we try to maneuver things such that I get to go to O Bar before I go. As much as we go quite often (but never often enough), it's always important to touch base with our chosen family. Plus it's not like I'll have any drag entertainment while overseas that holds a candle to what O Bar delivers night after night.
For Friday night, we also made it an early celebration for a friend's birthday even though his actual birthday is on Monday. We could have forced a Sunday night salubong-style celebration, but then I'd have to leave the bar after the first set, which would suck. So a full O Bar night including a birthday celebration felt like the best choice. And I'd like to think everyone had a lot of fun.
We didn't have a lot of friends with us, but it was a pretty solid group. Friday nights are an interesting mix of performances and I think we got luck with some longtime favorites like Bernie and Bench as part of the roster for the night. Plus Fridays mean quality time with the O2Men, and we had the full group of four after some weeks where one or the other was out for health reasons and the like. So it wasn't quite the full O Family, but it was still a lot of people important to us. And that all helps to make it quite a good night.
Plus we finally found the perfect reason to try the weird donut cake that Goldilocks has been selling as of late. Long story there for another time.
