Last night's game night was more of a newbie session, which still allows for a good range of games. Our board game collection includes games of varying complexity and we have games that we use for such intro sessions to help ease friends into the hobby.
Last name's game roster included a lot of titles we haven't touched in a while. This included games like G.P.S., My Happy Farm, Hawker Wars, Ra, Let's Go! To Japan, Love Letter, and finally Spots. The nice thing about newbie game nights is how we get to actually cover more games as they tend to be shorter ones as well. As the games get more complex, the playtime per game also gets longer. Thus we try to have a mix of games of different degrees of complexity just to better round out any game night.
For today, we managed to squeeze in watching Transformers One after lunch as we're expecting another friend over for gaming in the afternoon. I wasn't the most excited to see this movie as it is a reboot meant to help newer viewers get into the franchise and the trailers left me with mixed feelings. But it's still a pretty decent romp and an interesting take on the origins of the Transformers. We didn't watch it in one of the fancier formats like 3D or IMAX, but I can see how they crafted the movie to include a lot of potential 3D showcase moments. And there are some deep cuts hidden throughout the movie, so that's cool, too.
As a Soundwave fan, I was content with him saying that one line towards the end that made me super happy. Should they decide to make a movie tie-in toy, I may consider getting one because Soundwave.
It's raining pretty hard as I write this blog post, and I'm worried that'll make it too difficult for our friend to come over for board games. Let's see how the rest of this weekend goes.
