Today is Star Trek Day, which is a special geeky day celebrating the first broadcast of Star Trek on television. We probably should have tried to include some sort of a Star Trek-themed game in our sessions across the weekend, but we simply do not have enough board games for this purpose. Star Trek: Frontiers is one of our few Trek games but it takes a while to play through even the short game. The others are probably the different Star Trek-related Fluxx games we own that are cute but a bit niche.
We played a LOT of games for this month's gaming meet-up.
We started with several cases from MicroMacro Crime City, a game that we had largely played online on Tabletop Simulator. Then I facilitated a round of Apirary while Tobie had the other table playing Targi and then Cascadia with the LAndmarks expansion. We killed a little time in-between the heavier games with a round of Pick-a-Dog and Pick-a-Pig before going back into other games.
I was a bit surprised that we managed to learn a number of new games during the night. I processed the rules for the DC Deck-Building Game, which is a cute enough game but doesn't have the depth of Legendary: A Marvel Deckbuilding Game. Then we got to try out Search Party: Chaos at the Park, which was another Where's Waldo-style mystery game. We even got to learn and play a game based on the movie Rear Window, although it took us two games to fully acclimate.
Other games for the night included Atiwa, Startups, Verdant, and Project L with the Ghost Piece expansion included. We wrapped things up with Cascadia: Rolling Rivers, which is a roll and write version of the same Cascadia game. Deciding to learn another game at the very end of a game night may not have been the smartest thing to do, but we managed to get through it and still have fun. And once again, we got home with the sun already up.
We managed to get enough sleep before this afternoon's Pendragon RPG session. It was our first session since...a permanent roster change. It was a little tricky to get back into the groove of things and I think it'll take a few more sessions before we're fully back into things. It'll never be the same as before, but it's good that we're trying to continue with the campaign despite the other complications.
This is one of two campaigns affected by this change in the line-up and we're only just starting to consider the full implications of everything that has changed. These things are never easy, but we deal with things in our own way in our own time. And figuring out how we'll resolve these campaigns after...that's the challenge we're all wrangling with.
