02D6E: Hearty Birthday Gaming

Sunday - African Statues

This weekend took a lot more out of me than I had anticipated. But I guess that's understandable given I've been busy pretty much since right after arriving back in the country.

After our double movie date night, our big thing for Saturday was our monthly gaming meetup with our FGTC friends. And this was also my gaming birthday celebration as I'm the one with the August birthday.

It was a very full night of gaming and we covered a lot of ground. Because of Alien: Romulus, we played ALIEN: Fate of the Nostromo and barely survived the xenomorph. We followed that up with Dog Park, which is the more family friendly Wingspan, but with dogs. The alternate table played Splendor: Pokemon and Town 77, which I'm kinda jealous of as they're both good games. Tobie facilitated a session of Tiny Epic Crimes while I got to test out the revised civilizations of Tapestry in another all-expansions game.

We rounded out the night with Reef (because it's important to help friends move games in their collection as well), Earth, which is really such a good game, and finally Rolling Realms since I now have the Redux standalone expansion. As always, we didn't get to play ALL of the games that we brought, but we still managed to play a lot of them, so that's great.

The group had also arranged for a keto-friendly birthday cake and a fun gift in the form of the Indiana Jones: Cryptic puzzle board game. It's amusing how we seem to be in a mode to seriously explore all the different Funko board games now that they're a defunct company and a lot of these games are technically out of print. Our host even had a copy of their Rear Window board game, although we didn't manage to squeeze that into the night.

We finished past sunrise, which made getting up for my family book club call a bit more of a struggle. And by the time I headed to bed, Tobie was already starting to stir so my sleep has been pretty out of whack for today. To that end, we've arranged for a massage therapist to drop by tonight and we'll see how we can get the rest of the week to go as I get back into the regular groove of things.
