I worked from home today to help with the older nephew who has come down with a bit of a flu. From the way he was still running around, you wouldn't think that he was sick. But that's only when his analgesics were working - then as he'd start to feel worse he'd sit down more and try to cuddle up against anyone because he would start to feel cold again. It's always tough when kids get sick as there's only so much you can do.
It's easy to be the "cool uncle" or something and just swoop in for the fun stuff like humoring whatever games they want to play or letting them watch whichever show they want to (re-)watch. But the rest of it can be pretty tough and today was quite the long day of juggling work and helping out where I could when it came to my nephew. And man, he is old enough to make administering medication difficult. It is not fun trying to negotiate with a child, especially when what you have to do is for his own good. It was quite a day.
This marks a weird way to wrap up this trip as I fly home at the end of the week. To be fair, it's not like the boys and I aren't able to play and have a good time. Their combined efforts still run me ragged and I get pretty tired by the end of the day regardless. My Garmin keeps telling me that my sleep quality has been terrible this whole time, but that's mainly because the boys wake me up even before my regular work alarms. And despite all that, I've still been trying to walk whenever possible in order to still hit my daily step goals.
All this the week before my birthday. I may be pushing myself a little hard haha. But hey, it's super worth it. I have to make the most of my time here before it's time to fly home.
