02D64: The Journey Continues

Thursday - Caesar Salad

It's the time for our quarterly leadership meetings and we've come a long way since we've embarked on this particular journey. We've gone through quite a number of changes and outright transformations as we try to make ourselves a better company. And today's session, which sort of revisited things we covered in our first session as we tried to figure out our plans moving forward.

It's not easy to really figure out what your company's purpose is - one that everyone can truly believe in and doesn't sound like lip service or some other combination of buzzwords or something. But it all starts there - based on everything we've learned from our business coach and read in different books, that strong identity tied to a sense of purpose really seems to be one of the defining traits of some of the best companies. And we want to be able to establish that foundation for the rest of the team to empower them to move forward boldly and proudly. That's not something that you can come up with in a single working session. And today was a reminder that maybe this sort of thing can literally take months of thought, experimentation, and discussion.

Every time we have these meetings, I get excited about other things...but a part of me also gets rather daunted at how much work is waiting for us. We've accomplished so much in the course of this particular Scaling Up journey, but there's still so much left to do as well. But I really like this sort fo work - it's about working on the business and not just in it. It's trying to make sure that we're a lot more intentional about how we try to make things better for the team and, of course, our customers.

One more session tomorrow. And then a whole lot of work beyond this point.
