02CC6: Random Monday Bits

Monday - Leftovers

At the beginning of The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee, the usual reminder about mobile phone usage was modified with the cast actually asking the audience to take photos during the production and just make sure to tag them on Instagram. You could say that this is rather forward-thinking and accepting of the role of social media in promoting a production. But it still feels very wrong to do so and there were very few people who took them up on that offer. I guess you can blame years of theater etiquette ingrained in everyone's heads. But they're not the only ones trying something different. Recent productions have been pretty liberal with allowing people to take photos during curtain call - or at least they don't stop people during curtain calls despite reminders before the show that photography is "strictly" forbidden at any time while in the theater.

I appreciate the effort to be somehow more "progressive". But I think I'm content to keep my phone in my pocket and just make sure to buy a program.

It was a pretty good Monday - busy, but not stressful. Things started pretty early and ended on time, which is also good. There's always a lot of things that need to get done, but that's par for the course for any week. But at least it's not a crazy amount of things to juggle, so the deadlines are reasonable.

Tobie and I went for another walk after dinner as our grocery run was pushed to tomorrow. I've gotten him to at least install Google Fit on his phone to track his steps and have assigned him a very modest 5,000-step goal for now. I don't think he's going to hit that goal every day, but it is a workable goal for the nights we do step out. Maybe I'll eventually get him a Fitbit - or get myself a new tracker and pass my current Fitbbit over to him or something. Time will tell.
