So we got to watch the Barbie movie tonight and it was definitely a lot of fun. Despite the COVID-19 health emergency being "over", we figured it would be prudent to mask up for this movie given it was a full theater. We didn't feel the need to queue to take photos in the Barbie box by the theater entrance either, but these are just little things.
I was pretty sure this movie was going to go rather meta given the trailers and the fact that it was written and directed by Greta Gerwig. It was already surprising that someone like her would take on this project and it turned out to be even more surprising that Mattel let the movie unfold the way it did. There's no denying that this is still a lengthy commercial for Barbie as a brand, regardless of the movie's content. But it's still so well done and totally enjoyable.
Movies like this make me miss writing lengthier reviews over on my Geeky Guide blog. Maybe one day again.
Now we just need to figure out when we can squeeze in time to watch Oppenheimer. This'll be tricky given we have a full gaming weekend ahead. Even on a good day, it's not easy to find 3 full hours of free time to dedicate to a movie. But we'll make it work somehow.
In the meantime, the weather remains less than ideal. It's not quite raining all day - it's worse up north given Typhoon Egay's path. But there's still the random chance of rain (like tonight), so that's limiting a lot of things.
