Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 1116
With everything going full steam ahead at work in terms of the longer-term plans coming out of our kickoff sessions last week, things have been rather exciting. So it was rather annoying to get news of a bit of bureaucracy rearing its ugly head. One could argue that things should work out, but it's hard to rely on logic and reason when it comes to the government. I just have to trust in the process and our recordkeeping to see us through this. It is what it is and all that fun stuff. And there's only so much we can actively do about this, so better to invest more brain power into the more important initiatives.
Beyond that, this trip includes a number of interesting tech highlights thanks to my sister. I now own a pair of Oleap Pilot headphones, which have insanely good noise cancellation that we're able to join the same conference call despite sitting right next to each other in the same room. The other, which I haven't tried just yet, is a Pico VR unit, which we want to explore for virtual meetings.
On the book front, I have an uncomfortable number of active books at the same time for various reasons. The family book club got us started on The End of the World is Just the Beginning: Mapping the Collapse of Globalization, but we've shifted to Demon Copperhead as our official book instead, thus now I want to try to finish both. I'm reading Good to Great as my current business book, but I already have Remote Not Distant waiting in the wings. I want to bring in a personal fiction title to balance things out, but I just don't have the headspace for it. I'm still squeezing in comics here and there just to keep my book count moving so I don't fall behind on my reading goal.
Maybe I'll make good use of the limited holidays ahead to get more reading in.
