02C1E: Board Game Influx Surge

Thursday Board Games

Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 1034

The board game hobby is a tricky one as it shares a lot of traits with buying books. Reading is s separate hobby from buying books as playing board games is different from collecting board games. And given both Tobie and I contribute to our shared board game collection, that means both of us are adding to our "problem" of collection growth.

And this is why the Sietch looks like a board game warehouse store.

Tobie tries to limit his efforts to the Facebook secondhand market, but he's also quick to pre-order stuff directly on Miniature Market. I tend to back Kickstarter board game projects directly or I try to buy games directly from the web stores of different publishers (if they have one). A lot of these games go to our My Shopping Box in the US, then get forwarded here. But thankfully a lot of games now get delivered directly to the Philippines, especially with the help of things like VFI Asia

And this week, we had a number of deliveries arrive around the same time. From our US service, we received our copies of Dune Imperium: Immortality, Brazil Imperium, and Clank! Catacombs. Then VFI helped with two separate batches of Kickstarter board game rewards - Tobie's Paperback Adventures and my massive delivery of Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar along with Weather Machine, to which I had added copies of other Eagle-Gryphon games Rococo Deluxe Edition and On Mars (plus expansion!). It's a good thing that Tobie had recently added another utility shelf to the Sietch because we immediately needed more storage to handle the increase in games.

I'm super eager to play them and I've been trying to learn the rules in-between work tasks. But a lot of these games are pretty heavy (read: Vital Lacerda), so it's not exactly going to be a quick learning process. But that's all part of the fun of this crazy hobby we've committed ourselves to.

It's also a good thing that we've scheduled a rather lengthy board game session on Saturday afternoon before we're scheduled to go to O Bar later that night for Bernie's birthday show. I'm pretty sure I can tackle all the Dune Imperium expansions at this point and I have a decent feel for On Mars. I'm still trying to wrap my head around Weather Machine and I'm pretty sure I can learn the new Clank! before the weekend.

Fun, fun, fun!
