02B07: Ninety Thousand Step Day

Monday Dinner

Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 751

My Fitbit step count is super off today. My minimum step goal is 12,000 steps per day and I average over 15,000 even with the quarantine restrictions. The most steps I've ever managed were in the 20,000 range. Today, I was surprised to find that my Fitbit Sense had clocked over 80,000 steps while I had been sleeping. This has never happened to me before and I can't figure out what might have caused it. If it had really tracked that much activity, you think that my other stats would be weird. But my Fitbit had also tracked a full night of sleep, a normal resting heart rate, and other things. So I was really asleep at least before people support Tobie's Moon Knight theory as an explanation of my step count.

It wasn't until he afternoon that I had some time to try messaging Fitbit Support. The chat rep walked me through some standard troubleshooting like resetting the device and even asking me to test the step calibration by walking 100 steps and comparing that with what the device recorded. Things generally seemed in order and the rep could only offer to escalate things to her supervisor, which is a fancier way of saying they don't know what happened.

I hope it's just a weird fluke that won't happen again. Our only theory is that my use of the massage gun may have affected the Fitbit somehow. I've been using it on and off since Friday night, but it's only last night that the step numbers got silly. Now I've "achieved" all these weird Fitbit milestones for 30k, 80k, and 90k steps in a day but of course, I didn't really earn them. That miffs me quite a bit, but it is what it is. I don't exactly have an option to edit my step count to get rid of what I feel are erroneous steps.

Here's to hoping that restarting the device like twice now should be sufficient to bring things back to normal.
