029EC: Penguin Escapism

Penguins

Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 479

Tobie's vaccination appointment in Makati got moved again, so we're still on indefinite standby for that. No luck with getting an appointment via Taguig either, but we keep trying. I really want to get this item resolved sooner rather than later, but we just have to be patient for now and work with the system.

Work was still pretty busy today and I have a LOT of ground that I need to cover. We have several active initiatives that go beyond our normal stuff and I feel like I've been trying to play catch up with my regular reports and tasks while still accommodating everything else. Good problems to have and all that fun stuff.

One of the highlights of the week was finishing the first season of Penguin Town on Netflix. While this is not the first documentary series that has used the reality television approach to build narratives around animal footage, the story they did present was quite compelling. They really did a great job of making the lives of these little penguins worth following and we enjoyed all 8 episodes a lot. It may not be like the most technically comprehensive nature documentary out there, but it's certainly one of the more endearing ones. I have no problems with the different storylines they crafted since it makes the show more appealing to a wider audience.

And these days we all need lighter content to help get through the darker days.

It's kind of frustrating seeing everyone's social media updates in other countries. This week I actually saw someone attend a music festival-style event and no one was wearing a mask anymore. Other people have updates from different social gatherings and rooftop drinking parties that again didn't involve people being required to wear masks anymore. Meanwhile, we've still crawling to get 3% of our population fully vaccinated, what more the 70+% we need to stand a chance of attaining anything close to herd immunity.

It's these rather maudling thoughts that have me wanting to read more fiction or what's driving me to experiment further with TikTok. I'm tired of being stressed about our government's COVID-19 response. I may be fully vaccinated, but Tobie hasn't even gotten his first shot. And it's not like being vaccinated even ensures absolute immunity from the virus. It's just another layer of protection, but one that'll make a big difference once enough of the population is covered.

Really tired of all this.
