029C2: Home Repairs

Kitchen Cabinets

Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 437

Last week, the left-side kitchen cabinet door finally gave way. Water damage had weakened the left wall over time until the top hinge couldn't stay in place anymore. And while repairs of this nature really should have been handled by the owner, in the interests of time we coordinated with the building sooner to get something done. But the repairs had to involve not just the door but replacing the left wall and the floor of the cabinet, too.

In the interest of time, we pushed for the soonest possible date to get the repairs done. That led to things all coming down today. We could have scheduled it for tomorrow when at least I have the day off because of a Singapore holiday, but with our DFA appointment on Thursday, we didn't want to risk an extension of work crossing over. So today was the best option so that we'd still have tomorrow for additional work.

The work actually started after lunch, which meant that Tobie and both had to juggle watching the work and managing our respective meetings. And since the work included clearing our grease trap since it was in the affected area, we shut off the air conditioning in order to vent the house properly. Afternoon summer heat without the benefit of air conditioning is pretty terrible, add in the fact we're still trying to get work done with the occasional sounds of construction disrupting things.

Needless to say, it was a pretty stressful afternoon. We ended up ordering out for lunch and for dinner since we couldn't exactly cook under those conditions. It's not the smartest thing to do, but it was certainly convenient. And we needed whatever perks we could get given what we had to manage today.

At least Baduy Pride was a heck of a lot of fun - a lot of friends joined the stream and that made all the difference. Tomorrow I have a foot spa scheduled while Tobie gets work done. I still have some work-related things I'll need to settle in the afternoon, but beyond that, I'm largely free. There's not much that can be done for these mid-week holidays, so I'll probably just read or maybe play some more Darq or something.
