028F0: Greens, Greens, Greens

Two Bowls of Lettuce

Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 228

I eat a LOT of lettuce. Our weekly grocery supply typically includes several heads of lettuce alongside broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage as our primary roughage to go with meals. Leaning on greens was my primary method for getting over rice and other carbs in my early days of keto.

And now it feels kinda bonkers just how much fresh greens we go through every week. We could grocery less frequently if I didn't need as many vegetables as we do. But I guess it's a good problem to have - better than loading up on sugary sweets or other things I've left far behind in my pre-keto past.

Every meal has to have a vegetable side of some sort. Our staples are salads that Tobie tends to prepare or I blanch some broccoli and/or cauliflower to go with whatever our main is. Or I overload soups with cabbage or wombok in order to continue to load up on cruciferous vegetables, because that's a thing. Really, it's weird how this is how our eating has evolved because of my shift to keto, but I do hope that it's still largely for the better in the long run.

It just feels a lot more evident since we're home all the time. We don't get to eat out as much as we used to and we also hardly order out because keto still limits our options. and so we fall back on familiar menu items that we know can work for my keto requirements. And even then, we typically still need to have our own greens ready to supplement the take-out items because very few restaurants have great vegetable options. This is painfully true for delivery food service options for some reason.

This is my life.
