024DB: Quarantine Story Prompts

Roasted Pork Chops and Veggies

Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 207

Today was a Recovery Day as per my Nike Training Club app, which means I should take it easy. But instead, I still jogged a good 5km since I hate my weigh-ins on days when I don't have any physical activity plus I just feel better after my morning workouts. Plus it's important audiobook time and my current title is BJ Novak's One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories.

It's probably because of Neil Gaiman that the writer in me really stirs when I read/listen to short story collections. Short stories are a unique discipline in creative writing, but one that I think I stand a better chance at. The One Big Novel is great, too, but as I've experienced time and time again, it's a lot easier to get derailed from it. And BJ Novak's stories are very casual - you can tell that they start as one-line concepts or something and then he just runs with it.

I'm sure every other person who does any creative writing has thought about writing quarantine-related stories at this point but maybe I should take a serious stab at it and make a sort of short story collection of my own. I don't think my concepts will be as wild and crazy as some of Novak's ideas (e.g. a roast Nelson Mandela), ESPECIALLY given how serious the lockdown reality still is. But it's something to go on - each story can focus on a particular nuance of the lockdown here.

I don't know what to call it, but I know I should just try writing and not wait until I figure out the "branding" for then stories. Not sure if I'll post them here (in private) or over on the Geeky Guide (which I've done before). But I need to act fast instead of delaying things and letting procrastination win.
