Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 166
Just in time for my birthday, the Keto Filipino Bakeshop ran a special promotion on their Instagram account to celebrate reaching 20,000 followers. I rarely catch special offers like this, but getting P200 off a P2000 order (plus free delivery) is a great deal. The recommended shelf life for their products when refrigerated is only 7 days, so I'm going to have a LOT of keto-friendly pastries to work through to make sure nothing goes to waste.
The timing of this offer was pretty perfect since it meant that I could secure a keto-friendly cake for my birthday. In previous years friends typically arrange for a cake during a game night or something, and that's always nice. But I didn't want to think about whether or not friends would go through the extra effort to make arrangements, so I sort of took the decision away from everyone by ordering my own cake.
Sometimes Tobie would indulge in a non-keto cake, like Conti's Mango Bravo, but I didn't really feel like cheating this year. It's not quite a great time for crazy celebrations.
Some social media contacts have asked what our birthday meal is going to be and the answer to that is...I don't know. The fact that we're still in lockdown and Tobie and I don't really have the opportunity to have company safely over, there doesn't seem to be a point in having a "handa" for the birthday. It is what it is, but it's kind of sad, too. But we can't dwell on that.
We'll just have to make the most of things.
