Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 142

So today the news has been filled with statements by various national and local government officials scrambling to explain just how exactly the renewed Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), which goes into effect at midnight. It's understandable that everyone has been tripping all over themselves to get things prepared given the less than 24 hours provided by the President to implement his policy decision.

The return to MECQ for Metro Manila and a few other places is the government's response to the plea made by the medical community and other frontliners to return to a stricter quarantine level to help relieve our currently overwhelmed healthcare facilities. It's not a perfect solution that addresses all of the points the medical folks had raised, but I guess it's better than nothing. In the meantime, everyone scrambled to dredge up the old MECQ-related stuff including quarantine passes, lists clarifying what will and will not be open for business and all that fun stuff.

Ironically, Tobie and I had just been thinking that our condo accepting guests would open up interesting doors for like small game nights or something. We understand the risks and we've been weighing the pros and cons constantly, but now that's a moot point. And it's best for everyone not to contribute to the problem and just continue to isolate and encourage friends and family to stay home as well.

But quarantine is wearing me down, to some extent. I'm glad that we took the time to make Friday a bit different before all this new lockdown craziness has come down. I get to look back at our little excursion as a sort of recharge point to carry me through the rest of the challenges of this month.

On top of all this, I'm still thinking about my birthday and how to celebrate it, which is definitely a rather self-indulgent thing to even think of given everything else going on. I tried a quick Twitter poll and people seem open to an online "E-numan", which is bound to degenerate into a Jackbox Party game night, I suppose. And to prepare, I've already downloaded and installed my Steam copies of the first five Jackbox games just in case. If we're lucky, maybe some of the O Divas will have a Facebook Live show on my birthday and we can all tune in to that.

MECQ begins in a few hours. Stay safe, everyone. And stay home as much as possible.
